How Do You Make a Clay Mockup in Figma?

Last updated on November 29, 2022 @ 6:42 am

Clay is one of the oldest and most versatile materials used by humans. It can be used for everything from pottery and sculpture to jewelry and architecture. Clay can be worked by hand or with simple tools, and it can be molded into any shape imaginable.

Clay mockups are a great way to test out design ideas before committing to a final product. They can be used to experiment with different colors, textures, and shapes. Clay mockups are also relatively easy to make, and they’re a lot of fun to play with!

Here’s a quick overview of how to make a clay mockup in Figma:

PRO TIP: This Clay Mockup may not work as intended. The creator of this mockup has not been tested and may not be reliable. Use at your own risk.
  1. Start by creating a new project in Figma. You can use the “Create New Project” button in the top-left corner of the screen, or you can select “File > New Project…” from the menu bar.
  2. Create a rectangle on the canvas. This will be the base of your mockup. You can use the “Rectangle” tool in the toolbar, or you can select “Insert > Rectangle” from the menu bar.
  3. Duplicate the rectangle. Select the rectangle, then press “Cmd/Ctrl + D” on your keyboard (or select “Edit > Duplicate” from the menu bar). This will create an identical copy of the rectangle.
  4. Resize and reposition the rectangles. Use the selection tool to resize and reposition the rectangles so that they’re different sizes and shapes. You can also use the “Rotate” tool to rotate them if you want.
  5. Add color to the rectangles. Use the “Fill” tool in the toolbar to add color to your rectangles. You can choose from a variety of colors, or you can input a specific color value.
  6. Add texture to the rectangles. Select one of the rectangles, then click on the “Textures” tab in the properties panel. Choose a texture from the library, or upload your own. Adjust the scale, rotation, and opacity of the texture as desired.
  7. Export your mockup. Once you’re happy with your clay mockup, select “File > Export…” from the menu bar. Choose an image format (PNG or JPG), then click on the “Export” button.
