How Do You Make a Galaxy Background in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 9:22 pm

In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to create a galaxy background in Photoshop using a few simple tools and techniques. We’ll start by creating a starry background using a noise filter, then we’ll add some nebulae and galaxies using a couple of brushes. Finally, we’ll add some stars and planets using a layer mask and the clone stamp tool.

Let’s get started!

1. Create a new Photoshop document and fill it with black.

Add a new layer and fill it with white. Apply the noise filter to this layer (Filter > Noise > Add Noise). Set the amount to 100% and the distribution to Gaussian.

2. Change the blending mode of the noise layer to “Screen” and reduce the opacity to around 50%. This will create a nice starry background.

3. Now let’s add some nebulae.

Create a new layer and use a soft round brush to paint some light purple areas. Set the brush opacity to around 20-30%.

4. Add some galaxies using a similar technique. Use a soft round brush to paint some black areas, then set the brush hardness to 0% and paint over these areas with white to create highlights.

5. Finally, let’s add some stars and planets.

Use the clone stamp tool to stamp some stars onto the canvas. To create planets, use the ellipse tool to draw circles onto the canvas, then use the gradient tool to add some shading.

That’s it! You should now have a beautiful galaxy background in Photoshop!
