How Do You Make a Smart Object Not a Smart Object in Photoshop?

If you have a layer in Photoshop that you’ve converted to a smart object, you can revert it back to a normal layer using the following steps:

1. Right-click on the smart object in the Layers panel and select “Edit Contents” from the menu that appears.

2. This will open up the smart object in a new window. Make whatever changes you need to the contents of the smart object, then save those changes.

3. Close the window for the smart object, and you’ll see your changes reflected back in the main document.

4. To revert the layer back to a normal layer, right-click on it again and select “Rasterize” from the menu.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, you can easily make a smart object not a smart object in Photoshop. This can happen if you accidentally double-click on the layer or if you change the layer’s name. If you do make a smart object not a smart object, all of the edits you made to the layer will be lost.
