How Do I Add Subcategories on Shopify?

Last updated on October 2, 2022 @ 2:00 am

Organizing your products into categories and subcategories makes it easy for customers to find what they’re looking for, and it also helps you keep track of your inventory. You can add subcategories in Shopify from the Products page in your admin.

To add a subcategory:

From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Categories.
Click the name of the category that you want to add a subcategory to.
In the Subcategories section, click Add subcategory.
Enter a name and description for the subcategory, and then click Save.

Your new subcategory will now appear under the parent category on your shop’s Collections page.

PRO TIP: If you are considering adding subcategories to your Shopify store, be aware that this could potentially impact your store’s search ranking. Subcategories can help to organize your store’s products, but they can also create duplicate content, which can hurt your search ranking. Be sure to weigh the pros and cons of adding subcategories before making any changes to your store.
