How do I edit an existing text in Illustrator?

Last updated on February 26, 2023 @ 8:18 am

Editing text in Illustrator is a breeze. First, open the document you want to work on.

Next, select the text you want to work with. You can select all of the text by selecting it with the Selection tool (V).

If you just want to change a word or two, you can use the Type tool (T).

With the Text tool selected, you can edit the text just like you would any other document. You can type in new text, edit the text already there, and even format it as you see fit.

PRO TIP: When editing text in Illustrator, be sure to use the Selection tool (black arrow). With the Selection tool, you can click and drag to select any amount of text. Once your text is selected, you can change the font, color, size, and other attributes in the Character and Paragraph panels on the right side of the workspace.

If you want to make more extensive changes, you can use the Illustrator Edit menu to open the various text editing tools. The Properties panel gives you access to all the standard text-editing tools, like Font, Size, and Position. It also lets you change the text’s color, font, and other properties.

When you’re finished editing the text, just press the ‘Ctrl + S‘ key to save your changes and close the Text window. You’re now ready to go back to Illustrator and use your newly edited text!
