How Do I Give Permission to Edit in Figma?

Last updated on December 1, 2022 @ 2:18 pm

Figma is a vector graphics editor and design tool, which is primarily web-based with additional offline features, allowing users to collaborate on projects in real-time. It is available on all major operating systems via web browsers or the Figma desktop app. One of the great things about Figma is that it’s very easy to give others permission to edit your designs.

There are two ways to give someone permission to edit your design in Figma:

By sharing the link to your design

When you share the link to your design, you can specify whether you want the recipient to be able to view only, or view and comment, or edit.

To share the link to your design:

    1. Click the Share button in the top-right corner of the Figma interface.

    2. In the Share modal, specify who you want to share your design with by entering their email address.

    3. Select Can view from the dropdown menu next to their name.

    4. Click Share.

By adding people to your team

To add someone to your team:

    1. Click the Team menu in the top-left corner of the Figma interface.

    2. Click Add people.

    3. In the Add people modal, specify who you want to add to your team by entering their email address.

    4. Select a role for the person from the dropdown menu next to their name: Owner, Editor, or Viewer.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful when giving someone permission to edit in Figma, they may be able to access and edit parts of your design that you did not intend for them to see. Be sure to only give permission to people who you trust and who you know will respect your work.
