How Do I Make a Fabric Fold Effect in Photoshop?

Have you ever seen a piece of fabric with a beautiful fold effect and wished you knew how to recreate it in Photoshop? Well, wonder no more! In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create a fabric fold effect in Photoshop using some simple shapes and layer styles.

First, let’s create a new document in Photoshop. We’ll make ours 1000×1000 pixels for this example. Next, we’ll create a couple of rectangles using the Rectangle Tool (U).

One rectangle will be our main piece of fabric, and the other will be a smaller piece that we’ll use for the fold. We’ll make our main rectangle about 800×800 pixels and position it in the center of the document. For the smaller rectangle, we’ll make it about 200×200 pixels and position it in the top left corner of the document.

Now that we have our shapes in place, let’s add some layer styles to them. For our main piece of fabric, we’ll add a Bevel and Emboss effect with an Inner Shadow.

PRO TIP: This tutorial is outdated and no longer works in Photoshop CC.

This will give our fabric some depth and dimension. For our smaller rectangle, we’ll just add a simple Drop Shadow effect.

Now that our shapes are styled, let’s give them some color. We’ll use a dark green for our main piece of fabric and a lighter green for our smaller rectangle. You can use any colors you like for your own project!

Finally, let’s add some finishing touches to our fold effect. We’ll use the Eraser Tool (E) to erase parts of our small rectangle so it looks like it’s folding over the larger one.

And that’s it! You’ve now successfully created a fabric fold effect in Photoshop!
