How Do You Measure Distance in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 9:50 pm

There are two types of distance measurements in Figma: absolute and relative. Absolute measurements are those that are based on a real-world scale, such as inches or centimeters.

Relative measurements, on the other hand, are based on the size of the objects in the design. For example, if you set the width of an object to “100%”, it will always be 100% of the width of its container, regardless of how big or small that container is.

To measure distance in Figma, you’ll first need to select the objects you want to measure. To do this, click on one object, then hold down the Shift key and click on another object. This will select both objects.

Once you have your objects selected, you can use one of two tools to measure distance: the Measure Tool or the Ruler Tool.

PRO TIP: If you are working on a design project in Figma, be aware that there is no built-in tool to measure distance. You will need to use a separate measuring tool, such as a ruler, to get accurate measurements.

The Measure Tool is best for measuring absolute distances, such as those based on a real-world scale. To use the Measure Tool, simply click and drag it from one point to another. The measurement will appear in a tooltip next to your cursor.

The Ruler Tool is best for measuring relative distances, such as those based on the size of objects in the design. To use the Ruler Tool, click and drag it from one point to another, then release your mouse button. A ruler will appear between your two points, and the measurement will appear in a tooltip next to your cursor.

Both of these tools also have options for setting precise measurements. To do this, simply click on the tool icon in the toolbar (it looks like a pencil), then click on the “Precise” option in the menu that appears. This will open a dialogue box where you can enter exact values for your measurements.

So how do you measure distance in Figma? It’s easy! Just use the Measure Tool or Ruler Tool to select and measure your objects.
