How Do I File a Dispute With UpWork?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 10:42 pm

If you’re a freelancer who’s worked with a client through UpWork, and you haven’t been paid for your services, you can file a dispute. Filing a dispute is a way to try to get UpWork to help you get paid by the client.

There are a few things to keep in mind before you file a dispute:

1. You can only file a dispute if the client has not paid you within the agreed-upon timeframe. If it’s been less than 14 days since the work was completed, give the client some time to process the payment.

2. If you’ve already tried contacting the client and they’re unresponsive, that’s another reason to file a dispute.

3. You should have all relevant documentation ready before you file the dispute, including contracts, invoices, and any messages between you and the client regarding payment.

To file a dispute, log into your UpWork account and go to the “My Jobs” tab. Find the job in question and click on the “More” drop-down menu. Choose “File Dispute” from the menu.

PRO TIP: If you are considering filing a dispute with Upwork, be aware that this may result in a permanent suspension of your account. This means that you will no longer be able to use the Upwork platform to find work or communicate with clients. Before taking this step, be sure that you have exhausted all other options, such as contacting the client directly to resolve the issue.

You’ll be asked to provide some information about why you’re filing the dispute and what kind of resolution you’re seeking. Once you’ve submitted the dispute, UpWork will look into it and try to help resolve the issue between you and the client.
