Changing the Perspective Grid

Illustrator offers a variety of perspective grid options, each with its own advantages and drawbacks. To change the grid type, open the Perspective Grid dialog box (Window > Perspective Grid) and select from the following options:

Linear Perspective: This is the default perspective grid. The grid lines are perpendicular to the view plane and the perspective shifts the objects along the lines.

This is the most accurate perspective grid and is the most commonly used grid type.

Cubic Perspective: This grid uses nine intersecting planes, each representing a different view angle. As you move around the illustration, the objects change position on the planes.

PRO TIP: If you are working in Adobe Illustrator and want to change the perspective grid, be aware that this will also change the perspective of any objects on the grid. This can result in distorted or incorrect proportions, so be sure to check your work before finalizing it.

This grid is less accurate than the linear perspective grid and is less commonly used.

Aspect Ratio: This grid allows you to specify the proportions of the image’s width and height. The grid lines are then proportional to the width and height dimensions.

This grid is useful when you want to create an image that is not symmetrical and you want to maintain a certain proportion throughout the image.
