What Are Frames for in Figma?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 10:00 pm

Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool. It is available as a web app, as a desktop app for macOS and Windows, and as a mobile app for iOS and Android.

Figma has a frame tool that allows you to create rectangular or elliptical regions on the canvas. These regions can be used to group elements together, or to define areas of your design that should be exported separately.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, frames in Figma can be very confusing! They can be used to group elements together, but if you’re not mindful of their purpose, they can quickly become a mess. Be sure to keep your frames well-organized, and don’t hesitate to delete them if they’re no longer serving a purpose.

Frames can also be used to create scrollable regions in your prototypes. By default, Figma will export each frame as an individual image. However, you can change this behavior in the Export Settings dialog.

When exporting frames as images, you can choose to include the frame border in the exported image, or to export the frame without the border. You can also choose to export the frame at its original size, or to scale it up or down.

The Figma team is constantly working on new features and improvements. In the meantime, we hope this guide has helped you learn more about how to use frames in Figma!
